Youtube to GIF

API and 2 conumsers

Process used to be a bash script

download video using youtube-dl
mplayer to play the video
output to PNG, 1 PNG per frame
ImageMagick to turn into a gif
Cropping sucks

API driven design benefits:

worry about the mechanics of converting
multiple consumers: command line and website
lets me hide from frontend work

I used Go with Redis to make a pipline

Ask for GIF at /gifs, include URL+details
"OK cool, your gif will end up in this new place
Endpoint puts details on download queue, redis pubsub
Download process wakes up, downloads, tells the chopper queue
continue until GIF is real, update redis

Wanted to make example frontend consumer too
